I have been using a small hammer for a mallet when doing chisel work. All you knuckle dragging folks out there are probably yelling at your computer screen as you read that. I know, I know! So, today I decided to turn a proper mallet on the lathe.
I have been short on time this week so the post and video are going to be short and sweet.
I was trying to use up some scraps in the shop, so I sandwiched a piece of walnut in between two pieces of rock maple. The color contrast is fantastic and they turned pretty well.
After sanding up to 400 grit, I applied a coat of past wax for a finish.
I want to give a shout-out to Rockler Woodworking and Hardware for providing their Mini Turning Tools for this project. They were a pleasure to use.
