My wife and I started an annual “Friends Weekend” at our home. We invite all our closest friends to our home. We love to be outside and play yard games and sit around the camp fire. I thought it would be fun to make a yard game, so I decided to make a lawn size dice set! A very simple project that will only take a few hours!
I started with a rough shipping cribbing and milled it S4S on my jointer, planer, and table saw. I cut the cubes to length at the miter saw.
Once they were cut I applied a 1/8″ round over at the router table. This eased the edges and made them much more comfortable to handle.
After a little hand sanding, I set my drill press depth stop to approximately 1/4″. I then used a 1/2″ forsner bit to drill all the holes that made the dots on the dice.
I then used a small acid brush to apply black paint inside the holes to make the dots pop against the wood grain.
I used my edge sander to sand any black paint that was on the surface. I then applied a few coats of poly.
