My wife and I moved to a piece of property a few miles out of town. The previous owners loved to garden and had a 2,000 square foot garden to match. My wife and I have never gardened before, so we bought all the tools, read a few readings, watched a few videos and planted our first garden last year.
The first crop last year was awful, a few beans, some potatoes, and watched the corn get knee high. We needed to learn a few things, weed control was one of them. This year we plan to use plastic barrier to control the weed and help keep the moisture in the ground. We have a lot to learn about gardening, but that takes years of trial and error. We can help cut that time down by asking friends, family, and the online community for advise. If you have any gardening tips, please comment below or on my YouTube video.
In the springtime, I de-thatch my yard (remove the dead grass) and also run the sweeper in the tree rows to pick up all the leaves. In previous years this material was bagged up and thrown away. The idea of a compost bin was born. All this material can be thrown in with a few layers of green material, and we will water it, turn it ever week, and watch is decompose into great material for the garden, flower pots, and our landscaping.
Construction was very simple, 1 x 4’s, 2 x 4’s, a set of hinges, wire fencing, stainless steel screws and some paint.
