During the production of my YouTube videos, I noticed the same shots being used over and over. I wanted something to spice up the camera angles and provide a different shot style to sprinkle in my videos. I watched a few
As I was watching some other woodworking videos, I really enjoyed the panning shots. This camera technique is when the camera moves in a direction during filming.
There were some magnificent DIY models out there and even better commercially made units. The DIY units were a bit over complicated and too detailed for my needs. The commercially made units were incredible, but they came with a hefty price tag. I gathered up all the ideas that I had collected and set out to design the perfect powered camera dolly for me! I used skateboard wheels.
I came across a premade board on Amazon early in my research. The manufactured board provided exactly what I needed! Direction and speed control. The board comes with a variable speed control knob and a direction switch. The speed control for the board does not regulate voltage. It interrupts it, causing the motor to speed up or slow down. It basically acts like a really fast switch. The faster you want the motor to rotate, the less time in between on/off functions. And vice versa.
This powered camera dolly is going to add another camera angle and shooting style to give my content a visual spark.
